Fall Semester 2026
5 week Project
Goal:
To create a unique lamp
using unconventional
materials and assembly
to construct.

Assembly Process

Sketching other geometric concepts to come to the final design
Ideation

Assembly
I created a low fidelity cardboard model to scale the lamp. Then translated this to Cad software to model the shape of metal to cut and where to slot.

First I punched out the slot then cut the metal to the right shape with a stencil. I sanded the jagged edges off the slot. The lamp shade bends failed until I switched to a softer alloy. I iterated the internals of the lampshade to obtain the most compact solution. Then I secured to the shade with plastic bonder.

Reflection

I am content with this project and I really enjoyed learning about a new material processes. I appreciate the obvious materiality. I enjoy the simple assembly and the fit of the components defining the structure of the lamp.
